Framelink MCP for Figma: design data for coding agents
Gives Cursor and other coding agents the layout and styling data behind a Figma link, trimmed down first, so they build from real values instead of screenshots.

The usual way to hand a design to a coding agent is a screenshot, and then the model guesses spacing, font sizes and colors. Framelink MCP for Figma lets the agent call the Figma API for the file, frame or group you link, then trims the verbose API response down to the layout and styling the model actually needs. It had about 16k stars as of 2026-10-06.
What it does
- Reads design data:
get_figma_datafetches structure, layout and styles for the Figma file, frame or group in the link you paste. - Exports assets:
download_figma_imagessaves images and icons from the design into your project. - Simplifies before sending: the server translates and prunes the raw Figma API response so only relevant layout and style fields reach the model.
- Framework-agnostic: the agent gets structured data, so React, Vue or SwiftUI output all work.
Who it’s for
- Front-end developers who receive Figma files and want Cursor or Claude Code to scaffold the page first.
- Small teams that want fewer pixel-alignment round trips between design and engineering.
Setup
You need a Figma personal access token and Node.js. On macOS and Linux:
{
"mcpServers": {
"Framelink MCP for Figma": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"figma-developer-mcp",
"--figma-api-key=YOUR-KEY",
"--stdio"
]
}
}
}
You can set FIGMA_API_KEY in env instead of passing the key as an argument. The Windows variant is in the README.
Our take
Figma also offers its own MCP server. Framelink’s appeal is that it’s open source, runs on a single access token and is the most widely used community option. Its real contribution is the trimming step: raw Figma API responses are large, and feeding them straight to a model is expensive and noisy. The README says it’s built mainly for Cursor, though other clients work. The token can read every file your account can see, so create a dedicated one and keep it safe, and still review the generated code for interactions and responsive behavior. Licensed MIT.
