French legal data is open but scattered: judicial case law sits in Judilibre, administrative decisions in another dataset, legislation in Légifrance, and none of them talk to each other. LibreJustice merges them into one database, links decisions to legal texts article by article, and offers a remote MCP endpoint agents can use directly. The code is open source on GitHub; the maintainers run the site.

What it does

  • Four tools: search_decisions and get_decision for rulings, search_norms and get_norm for legal texts.
  • Case law coverage: Conseil d’État, Cour de cassation, courts of appeal, first-instance courts, Conseil constitutionnel, CNIL, plus the ECHR and CJEU, filterable by court, date, outcome and cited articles.
  • Law as of any date: codes and statutes come back in the version in force on a given day, with per-article history, alongside the Journal officiel, EU law, treaties and collective agreements.
  • Citation graph: go from a decision to the exact article versions it cites, or from an article back to the decisions that cite it.
  • Plain-language search: hybrid lexical and semantic retrieval, with AI summaries kept separate from verbatim excerpts.

Who it’s for

  • Lawyers, in-house counsel and legal scholars working on French or EU matters who need relevant case law fast.
  • Legal tech developers who want a free French legal data source; the same corpus is available over a REST API.

Setup

Nothing to install. The endpoint is https://librejustice.fr/mcp, using OAuth 2.1 with dynamic client registration, so there’s no API key to configure. In Claude Code, the plugin installs the connector and companion skills:

/plugin marketplace add librejustice/librejustice
/plugin install librejustice@librejustice

On claude.ai it’s in the connector directory. In ChatGPT, Le Chat or Perplexity, add a custom connector pointing at the endpoint above.

Our take

Most legal MCP servers wrap a paid database or a single source. LibreJustice puts case law and legislation in one place and resyncs daily. It had only a few dozen GitHub stars as of 2026-10-06, but neither the corpus size nor the engineering looks like a side project. The limits are clear: it covers French-language jurisdictions and EU law only, and the interface and data are mostly in French. AI summaries can be wrong, so check the original before citing, and results aren’t legal advice. Licensed Apache-2.0.
