MCPJungle: a self-hosted MCP gateway and registry for teams
A self-hosted MCP gateway. Register servers once and Claude, Cursor and custom agents all connect to one endpoint, with tool groups and access control.

By the tenth MCP server, every client needs its own copy of the config, a new laptop means starting over, and nobody on the team can say who connected which server with which keys. MCPJungle pulls that into one place. Servers register with the gateway once, every client connects to its single Streamable HTTP endpoint, and tools, prompts and resources are discovered there.
What it does
- One registry:
mcpjungle registeradds HTTP or stdio servers, and tool names get a server prefix (such ascontext7__get-library-docs) to avoid collisions. - Tool groups: expose only a subset of tools to a given client, which saves context and narrows permissions.
- Enable and disable: switch individual tools off globally without touching the server’s own config.
- Team mode: when deployed as shared infrastructure it provides access-control and observability hooks, plus a dashboard of registered servers.
Who it’s for
- Individual developers fed up with syncing MCP configs across machines and clients.
- Platform engineers who want to give a team one governed catalog of MCP tools.
Setup
Needs Docker. Fetch the compose file and start the server (default endpoint http://localhost:8080/mcp), install the CLI with Homebrew, then register a server:
curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mcpjungle/MCPJungle/refs/heads/main/docker-compose.yaml
docker compose up -d
brew install mcpjungle/mcpjungle/mcpjungle
mcpjungle register --name context7 --url https://mcp.context7.com/mcp
Clients that only speak stdio can reach the gateway through mcp-remote.
Our take
About 1,300 stars as of 2026-10-06. There are many gateways; MetaMCP has more stars, but its author admits in the README that maintenance has lagged and points to a community fork. MCPJungle’s docs site, public roadmap and release cadence look steadier for a team planning long-term use. It complements Toolport in this category: Toolport is a desktop app for one person’s machine, MCPJungle a server-side gateway for teams. Once a gateway holds every credential and tool, it becomes a critical service in its own right, so turn on access control for shared deployments. stdio servers behind the gateway have a cold-start issue that the docs cover.
