Mobile automation has always been split by platform: XCUITest for iOS, Espresso for Android, two codebases and two toolchains. Mobile MCP gives agents one platform-agnostic interface. It reads the native accessibility tree and acts on elements, falling back to screenshots and coordinates only when it has to. It works on simulators, emulators and real devices, and had about 8.7k stars as of 2026-10-06.
What it does
- Device management:
mobile_list_available_deviceslists every simulator, emulator and device. It can also change orientation, override GPS location and read or set the clipboard. - App management: install
.apk,.ipaor.appfiles; launch, terminate and uninstall apps; check which app is in the foreground. - Screen interaction:
mobile_list_elements_on_screenreturns elements with coordinates; tap, double-tap, long-press, swipe, type, press HOME or BACK, and record the screen. - Logs and crashes:
mobile_get_device_logspulls logcat or the iOS unified log, andmobile_list_crasheswithmobile_get_crashreads crash reports. - Batching:
mobile_batch_commandsruns a sequence like tap, type, tap in a single call.
Who it’s for
- Mobile developers who want the coding agent to click through the app in a simulator after a change and confirm nothing crashed.
- QA teams automating native-app regression checks or data entry.
Setup
Needs Node.js 20+, Xcode command line tools for iOS and Android Platform Tools (adb) for Android. In Claude Code:
claude mcp add mobile-mcp -- npx -y @mobilenext/mobile-mcp@latest
Other clients use the standard config:
{
"mcpServers": {
"mobile-mcp": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "@mobilenext/mobile-mcp@latest"]
}
}
}
Our take
Of the mobile MCP servers we reviewed, this one covers the most ground: both platforms, simulators and hardware, one tool set. It defaults to the accessibility tree rather than screenshots, which is faster and spends no image tokens, the same idea Playwright MCP applies to browsers. Lighter servers exist if you only target the iOS simulator, but cross-platform teams will find this simpler. It can install and uninstall apps, read the clipboard and pull device logs, so connecting a real phone hands that phone to the agent; use a test device. The maker also sells Mobile Next Cloud for remote real devices, which local use doesn’t need. Licensed Apache-2.0.
