GA4’s interface is famously hard to navigate. Answering “which events fired most in the last 180 days” or “how many users were signed in” means dragging dimensions and metrics around an Explore report. Google Analytics MCP, maintained by the Google Analytics team, lets an agent call the GA4 Admin and Data APIs and answer those questions from one sentence. The repo had about 3.4k stars as of 2026-10-06.

What it does

  • Accounts and properties: get_account_summaries lists every account and property you can access, get_property_details returns one property’s settings, and list_google_ads_links shows linked Google Ads accounts.
  • Standard reports: run_report runs Data API reports by dimension and metric; get_custom_dimensions_and_metrics reads your custom fields first so the model doesn’t guess names.
  • Funnels: run_funnel_report shows where users drop off.
  • Realtime: run_realtime_report covers active users and live events, handy on launch day.

Who it’s for

  • Site owners and indie developers who want to ask “which post brought the most new users last week”.
  • Growth and paid-media people who want GA4 numbers and Google Ads links rolled into a weekly report.
  • Product managers who never learned GA4 Explore and want funnel analysis in plain language.

Setup

You need pipx, the Analytics Admin and Data APIs enabled in a Google Cloud project, and Application Default Credentials with the analytics.readonly scope (set up with gcloud auth application-default login). In Claude Code:

claude mcp add analytics-mcp \
  --scope user \
  -e "GOOGLE_APPLICATION_CREDENTIALS=PATH_TO_CREDENTIALS_JSON" \
  -e "GOOGLE_PROJECT_ID=YOUR_PROJECT_ID" \
  -- pipx run analytics-mcp

Our take

It’s the official server and it only asks for read-only access, so the agent can’t change any settings. That makes it easy to hand over. The friction is up front: a Google Cloud project, two APIs, an OAuth client and ADC, which is more work than the server itself if you don’t live in GCP. It’s still labeled experimental, there are only seven tools, and admin tasks like creating events or conversions are out of scope. The README leans on Gemini CLI, though it includes the Claude Code command. Licensed Apache-2.0.
