Strava holds all the data, but answering “how far did I run this month?” or “what were my lap paces in last week’s intervals?” still means scrolling through the app. Strava MCP connects your account to an agent through the official Strava API, so you can just ask. It’s a community project with about 500 stars as of 2026-10-06.

What it does

  • Activities: recent activities, filtered lists, single-activity detail and laps, and heart rate, power and cadence streams in a compact format that saves context.
  • Stats: year-to-date and all-time totals, per-sport summaries and personal records.
  • Segments and routes: starred segments, popular segments nearby, leaderboards and your efforts; saved routes with GPX or TCX export.
  • Gear and zones: shoe mileage, heart rate and power zones.
  • Workout files: turns a training plan into a structured Zwift .zwo file.

Who it’s for

  • Runners and cyclists who want Claude to sum up a week of training or compare this month with last.
  • Self-coached amateurs reviewing a session against their heart rate zones.

Setup

Needs Node.js and a free API application created at strava.com/settings/api, with localhost as the callback domain. In Claude Code:

claude mcp add --transport stdio strava -- npx @r-huijts/strava-mcp-server

Then tell Claude “Connect my Strava account”. A browser page opens for your Client ID and Secret and the Strava authorization. Credentials are stored in ~/.config/strava-mcp/config.json.

Our take

Among fitness servers, this one uses Strava’s official API and OAuth rather than scraping, and turns authorization into a single sentence in chat. That’s why we chose it over unofficial-API options for platforms like TrainingPeaks. It mostly reads, but it can star segments on your behalf and write route files to a local folder. Credentials and tokens sit in plain text in the local config file, and Strava rate-limits personal apps, so pulling streams for many activities at once can hit the cap.
