Ask an agent without data access to “check what’s worth building from Product Hunt this month” and it falls back to web search, returning stale secondhand listicles. producthunt, one of the skills in resciencelab’s opc-skills collection (aimed at solopreneurs), wires your agent straight into Product Hunt’s official GraphQL API (api.producthunt.com/v2) — posts, comments, topics, users and collections are all queryable. The repo is Apache-2.0, with 1,827 stars as of September 28, 2026 and a push on September 27, 2026.

What it can query

Eleven Python scripts, all read-only, standard library only:

• get_posts.py: today’s featured launches, filterable by topic (--topic ai) or date (--after 2026-01-01);
• get_post.py / get_post_comments.py: one product by slug or ID, plus its raw comment threads;
• get_topic.py / get_topics.py: topics by slug or keyword;
• get_user.py / get_user_posts.py: a user and their launches;
• get_collection.py / get_collections.py: official collections.

The API’s rate limit is 6,250 complexity points per 15 minutes — plenty for everyday research, spend it carefully on bulk pulls.

Set up the token first

The skill ships no auth of its own. Create an application in Product Hunt’s developer dashboard to get a free developer token, then export it:

Read-only, and know the edges

The scripts can query but not act — they won’t submit your product, post comments or upvote. Comments and leaderboard data mirror what’s on Product Hunt itself, so for idea work, keep separating launch-day buzz from confirmed paying users the way our idea-mining playbook describes.

Who it fits

Indie developers doing competitor research or demand validation inside Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. Once the skill is installed, swap the opening of that playbook’s prompt to “using the producthunt skill” and the same workflow runs on agents without the official connector.
